ca liliecii catifelaţi şi sîngeroşi / like the velvety, bloody bats

obscenitatea e hămesită de glorie
gloria e hămesită de obscenitate
– două surori incestuoase
cu limbaj obscen.
ce nu creşte şi nu se arată în linişte
sau nebuneşte e obscen. de aceea
tot ce ţîşneşte din pămînt
şi tot ce coboară din cer e nobil.
dacă n-am ochi decît pentru ce vine
din cer şi din pămînt
înseamnă că stau atîrnată în vid
ca liliecii catifelaţi şi sîngeroşi?

obscenity is famished with glory
glory is famished with obscenity
– two incestuous sisters
with obscene language.
what doesn’t grow and doesn’t show itself in silence
or madness is obscene. therefore
all that springs from the earth
and all that comes down from heaven is noble.
if I have eyes only for what comes
from heaven and earth
does it mean that I’m hanging in a void
like the velvety and bloody bats?
